Writing a reference

A reference should always be formal. In fact the write as formally as you possibly can because you are trying to make every little detail seem important and noteworthy.

First of all you should consider what type of job the person is applying for and all details should be relevant to the job. Do not talk about hobbies unless they are relevant to the job.

Similarly all work experience should be related to the job that the person is applying for. Make sure everything refers back to the first paragraph i.e. 'x would make an excellent candidate for the job because ...'
