Latin terms in English

Did you know that we use several Latin terms in English?

For example 'please note' is written N.B, which means 'Nota bene' in Italian and Latin.

This may seem a little stupid that English doesn't have it's own terms, or vernacular terms, but look what happens if we write literally. For example if we abbreviated That Is To Say, as my student Jose pointed out the other day (yes and that is the frightened Jose) it would spell:

TITS.

And we end up with this. Therefore in English we again use a Latin term for That is to say. i.e. id est. This way we don't end up looking like Tits.
